BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. – The MLS All-Stars defeated Chelsea, 1-0, in front of 21,210 fans at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill.
Dwayne De Rosario of the Houston Dynamo scored the game-winner for the MLS All-Stars in the 70th minute when he unleashed a right-footed strike from the edge of the 18-yard-box. The Canadian international, who earned MVP honors, was one of only four MLS players to play the entire match.
Chelsea had numerous chances to equalize, but the MLS All-Star defense was able to thwart every opportunity for The Blues and keep the English side off of the scoreboard.
The win marks the third time in as many tries that the MLS All-Stars have beaten an international club.
The MLS took care of England’s Fulham FC, 4-1, in the 2005 All-Star Game and, in the first matchup of foreign competition in 2003, defeated Mexico’s Guadalajara by the score of 3-1.
