WASHINGTON, D.C. – The MLS Eastern All-Stars defeated the Western All-Stars, 3-2, in front of 21,378 fans at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.

Amado Guevara gave the East a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute when he fired a left-footed shot into the back of the net from the top of the 18-yard-box.

The Honduran international, who earned MVP honors for his performance, doubled the East’s lead just two minutes later when he converted a penalty kick past the outstretched arms of West goalkeeper Pat Onstad.

Brian Ching cut the deficit in half for the West when he headed home a cross from San Jose Earthquake teammate Richard Mulrooney in the 43rd minute.

Guevara added an assist to his scoreline in the 74th minute when he slipped a through ball to Alecko Eskandarian. The D.C. United forward pushed it by goalie Kevin Hartman and into the far corner to widen the East’s advantage.

Jason Kreis rocketed a one-timer into the net in the 89th minute to bring the score to within one, but the West would fail to equalize.

In the sixth-ever matchup of East versus West in the MLS All-Star game, the East extended their record to 4-1-1, with the only draw coming in a 6-6 fixture in 2001.
