Tucson will be one of the MLS preseason destinations once again in 2017, as the city will host the 2017 Desert Friendlies and Desert Diamond Cup early next year.
The preseason events will kick off in Arizona in January, as seven MLS teams will participate in the Desert Friendlies, from Jan. 27-Feb. 7. Six of those clubs have been announced: Seattle Sounders, Portland Timbers, Sporting Kansas City, San Jose Earthquakes, New England Revolution, Real Salt Lake. The final team will be announced at a later date.
Then, the sixth annual Desert Diamond Cup preseason tournament will take place, from Feb. 15-25. Sporting KC, New England will participate, as will the Houston Dynamo, New York Red Bulls, New York City FC and Colorado Rapids.
The Desert Friendlies and Desert Diamond Cup is organized by FC Tucson, with partners Pima County, Visit Tucson, the Town of Oro Valley, and Major League Soccer bringing many MLS teams together in the warm climate of Arizona to prepare for the upcoming MLS season.
