It might not have been the tournament he was hoping for, but with all now said and done at the FIFA Global Series Playoffs over the weekend, New York City FC player NYC_Chris is set to fly the flag for NYCFC and eMLS at the eWorld Cup in London next month.
Heading into the Global Series Playoffs — which pitted the top 64 ranked PlayStation players against each other with a chance at qualifying for competitive FIFA's top tournament — NYC_Chris stood a strong chance of making the final eWorld Cup field, ranked at No. 6 in the world. And although he did not get out of the group stage, posting a 3-4 record in Friday's action, his strong starting ranking ensured that he'll still be among the 16 PlayStation players (to go with 16 more Xbox One players) that will compete Aug. 2-4:
Philadelphia's doolsta (No. 18 to start the tournament) also had a chance at cracking the final 16, while Cincinnati's FCCFiddle (ranked No. 37) had an outside shot, but neither were able to make it out of Swiss round play either. Doolsta went out after the fifth round with a 1-4 record (four wins gets a player through; four losses eliminates them), while FCCFiddle went all the way down to the wire, missing out on the knockout rounds and a chance at eWorld Cup qualification by one goal.
