Exports: Giovanni Reyna notches three assists for Borussia Dortmund against SC Freiburg

Giovanni Reyna - Dortmund - on dribble v Freiburg

Giovanni Reyna produced his brightest Bundesliga performance to date on Saturday, recording three assists in Borussia Dortmund’s 4-0 demolition of SC Freiburg before being subbed off in the 80th minute.

Reyna, a 17-year-old New York City FC academy product, twice split defensive lines for left-footed finishes from Erling Haaland. He also curled in a pinpoint corner kick that Emre Can nodded home, giving him four assists in Dortmund’s first three league games of the season.

Check out his third, where he patiently slipped through the Norwegian striker to make it 3-0 in the 66th minute.

That connection also paid off in the 31st minute, with Reyna driving at the heart of defense before Haaland lashed home a powerful strike past goalkeeper Florian Muller.

Then just after halftime, Reyna picked out an unmarked Can from 10 yards out for a 2-0 lead in the 47th minute. The German's header resulted in Reyna's first multi-assist game of his career, though he later one-upped himself.

In his second season with Dortmund’s first team, Reyna now has one goal and four assists across three Bundesliga appearances. He’s yet to make his US men’s national team debut, though figures to play a significant role under head coach Gregg Berhalter moving forward.
