Red-hot Atlanta United export Miguel Almiron scores again for Newcastle

Miguel Almiron - celebrating - goal vs Wolves

Miguel Almiron had a feeling once he gotahe first goal for his new club, more would follow.

He wasn't wrong.

The former Atlanta United star hit the net again for Newcastle United on Saturday, making it goals in back-to-back games and three in his last six in all competitions for the Magpies.

All three goals have been of the emphatic, one-timer sort, the latest giving Newcastle a very early lead at Wolverhampton. The match finished a 1-1 draw.

Almiron's appearance also calmed any fears that me might miss time after he left last week's FA Cup third-round tie at Rochdale just beyond the hour mark. He scored early in that one, but a late leveler and a 1-1 draw on Jan. 4 means NUFC were forced into a home replay at St. James Park set for this coming midweek.

A few weeks earlier, the Paraguay national team standout opened his Newcastle account with a vital late winner at home against Crystal Palace on Dec. 21.

Now age 25, Almiron had 21 goals and 28 assists in two MLS seasons at Atlanta United. He also had a goal and two assists in his most recent MLS postseason, helping Atlanta win 2018 MLS Cup, the club's first major trophy.
