TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signings
Real Salt Lake have added to their deep roster of Homegrown signings with the announcement on Thursday of two more additions, midfielder/forward Tate Schmitt and defender Erik Holt, for the 2019 season.
Both players are products of the Real Salt Lake Academy (AZ), with Schmitt playing collegiate soccer at the University of Louisville and Holt doing the same at UCLA.
“We know that Tate and Erik are players that would be first round selections if they entered the draft. Having the ability to sign both as RSL Academy graduates is another step in following our youth development philosophy while giving both the ability to develop into first team players over time,” RSL general manager Craig Waibel said in a team statement. “They both had remarkable college careers and we are excited about what the future holds for them here at the club.”
Schmitt, 21, was an All-ACC First Team honoree in 2018, as well as a USC All-South Region First Team selection. MVP at the 2018 ACC Championship tournament, he finished fourth in Louisville history in career points, with 69.
Holt, 22, appeared in 71 games in his college career for the Bruins. The center back, also a former US U-17 international, was an All-Pac 12 selection in 2017 and 2018.
The duo are the 20th and 21st Homegrown signings by RSL, respectively. The club's roster is now up to 26 members for the 2019 season, which will open on the road on March 2 against the Houston Dynamo.
