Reports: Earthquakes interview Caleb Porter, inquire about Barros Schelotto

Caleb Porter - Arms crossed, frustrated - Portland Timbers

The San Jose Earthquakes only Monday officially dismissed coach Mikael Stahre, but already two names familiar to MLS fans are being linked with the newly open position.

According to Sports Illustrated's Grant Wahl, former Portland Timbers coach Caleb Porter has already interviewed for the position. Meanwhile, Joel Soria, editor in chief of fan site Quakes Epicenter, indicates the Quakes have inquired about the salary demands of current Boca Juniors manager Guillermo Barros Schelotto, who played 2007 to 2010 with Columbus Crew SC.

The Quakes have promoted assistant Steve Ralston to the head coaching position on an interim basis.

Porter resigned from his post with the Timbers following the 2017 season. He led Portland to the 2015 MLS Cup as well as two regular season Western Conference championships during a five-year tenure.

Barros Schelotto played most of the final years of his playing career in Columbus, where he scored 33 goals in 102 regular season appearances and helped Crew SC to the 2008 MLS Cup title. He began his managerial career at Lanus, and took charge at Boca in March of 2016, where he has helped the storied club to consecutive Argentine Super Liga titles.
