United States Under-20 national team head coach Tab Ramos is among the finalists for the San Jose Earthquakes’ GM job, according to ESPN’s Jeff Carlisle.
According to Carlisle, Ramos is the fourth candidate on San Jose’s list of five finalists. Former Sunderland sporting director Lee Congerton, current Mexico Football Federation director of youth national teams Dennis te Kloese and current San Jose technical director and interim GM Chris Leitch were previously reported as the other three.
Carlisle reported that Ramos, Leitch and te Kloese all made presentations to San Jose’s ownership earlier this week and that the club is expected to make a final decision around the start of 2017.
Ramos has led the U-20s since 2011. He guided the team to the quarterfinals of the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand, where they lost on penalties to eventual champion Serbia, who were managed by current Chicago Fire head coach Veljko Paunovic.
A longtime US national team midfielder, Ramos also serves as US Soccer’s youth technical director. He made 81 career appearances with the USMNT.
