Another week in the MLS offseason brings another draft, as Stage 2 of the MLS Re-Entry Draft takes place on Thursday. It's a lot like last week's Stage 1 – same order, same players eligible, except, of course, for the three taken on Friday in Stage 1.
The difference is what happens after the draft. Players in Stage 1 automatically have their MLS contracts picked up by the drafting clubs and are immediately added to their new club's rosters. But clubs taking players in Stage 2 can negotiate new deals.
Eligibility for the Re-Entry Draft is only open to players who are out of contract or had their options declined, and are at least 23 years old with a minimum of three years of MLS experience, or are at least 25 with a minimum of four years of league experience.
Participation is not mandatory; players may opt out of either stage up until the draft begins. Players eligible for free agency are not included in the Re-Entry process.
