It's official: MLS Cup 2016 will be contested between Toronto FC and the Seattle Sounders.
Toronto sealed their place in the championship on Wednesday night with an unforgettable 5-2 win over the Montreal Impact in the second leg of the Eastern Conference Championship. The extra time win sent the Reds to the first title game in team history with a 7-5 aggregate victory.
The Reds, having finished the regular season with 53 points compared to Seattle's 48, will host MLS Cup on Dec. 10 (8 pm ET; FOX, UniMás; TSN, RDS in Canada). It will be the second time the game has been played at BMO Field after the 2010 MLS Cup, which was contested between the Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas when the game was still played at a neutral site.
Both Toronto and Seattle will be making their MLS Cup debuts. The game will also mark the first time that neither of the finalists are original MLS teams. TFC entered the league in 2006 and are in the playoffs for the second time in franchise history, while the Sounders joined in 2009 and have made the postseason every year since.
