A member of the MLS coaching fraternity with ties to Minnesota may be moving back home to one of the league's new expansion teams.
D.C. United assistant coach Amos Magee has been identified as the top candidate to take a front-office position with Minnesota United FC, according to a recent report from ESPNFC's Jeff Carlisle. According to the report, Magee would become director of player personnel, assisting sporting director Manny Lagos in building the club's first MLS roster for the 2017 season.
Magee, 45, is a Minnesota native and has coached pro soccer in the state, first playing for and then coaching the Minnesota Thunder. As a coach, he worked alongside Lagos in the Thunder organization.
Magee briefly played in MLS, with the Tampa Bay Mutiny in 2000 and the Chicago Fire in 2001-02. Prior to joining D.C. United's coaching staff under Ben Olsen, he worked for the Portland Timbers, first as an assistant prior to the club's entry to MLS in 2011, and then for two seasons as an assistant and reserve team coach for the MLS side.
