What will it take for your team to advance into the 2016 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs Conference Championships?
Just in case you don’t already have the scenarios all thought out, Steve Fenn has you covered.
Fenn, who runs the website StatHunting.com, put together four helpful visualizations covering all the potential scenarios for all four conference semifinals. You can build your own here and check out this weekend's scenarios below.
Colorado Rapids vs. LA Galaxy
Leg 1: Galaxy win 1-0 at StubHub Center
Leg 2: 2 pm ET; ESPN and ESPN Deportes in the US, TSN5 in Canada | Dick’s Sporting Goods Park
This scenario is rather straightforward, thanks to the Galaxy’s 1-0 Leg 1 win against the Rapids last weekend. If Colorado hold a 1-0 lead at the end of regulation, things will progress to extra time and, if necessary, penalties. If LA scores, the Rapids will have to win by a two-goal margin in order to advance thanks to the away goal tiebreaker.
New York Red Bulls vs. Montreal Impact
Leg 1: Impact win 1-0 at Stade Saputo
Leg 2: 4 pm ET; ESPN and ESPN Deportes in the US, RDS and TSN5 in Canada | Red Bull Arena
Montreal and New York are looking at the same advancing scenarios as the Galaxy and Rapids, with the visiting Impact playing the role of LA and hosting Red Bulls following the same path as Colorado.
New York City FC vs. Toronto FC
Leg 1: Toronto FC win 2-0 at BMO Field
Leg 2: 6:30 pm ET; FS1 and FOX Deportes in the US, TSN4 and TSN5 in Canada | Yankee Stadium
Toronto have more of a cushion than LA or Colorado, as evidenced by all that red in Fenn’s visualization. TFC will advance with a win, draw, one-goal loss or a two-goal loss in which they score at least one goal.
FC Dallas vs. Seattle Sounders
Leg 1: Sounders win 3-0 at CenturyLink Field
Leg 2: 9 pm ET; FS1 and FOX Deportes in the US, TSN2 in Canada | Toyota Stadium
No one needs to look at an image to know that FC Dallas are in a world of hurt on Sunday. If Seattle score one goal in Frisco, FCD will have to score 5 to advance. If the Sounders bag two, Dallas would have to win 6-2 in order to move on.
