Not even Adam Jahn's first career brace could keep Columbus Crew SC's playoff hopes flickering against the Chicago Fire.
Jahn scored a deflected opening goal in the 13th, and then hammered in a stunning volley in the 80th, but Crew SC officially fell out of postseason contention with a 2-2 draw at Chicago.
The Fire seized on an own goal and Michael de Leeuw's 57th-minute strike to turn an early deficit into a 2-1 lead over a four-minute second half stretch.
Both goalkeepers had some late heroics, with the Crew's Steve Clark denying Luis Solignac during second-half stoppage time to cap his 100th consecutive start.

- END OF THE ROAD: Although Crew SC could mathematically catch the Philadelphia Union on points, Columbus was still eliminated because the Union would still have more wins in that scenario. Even with a win, Crew SC would’ve needed wins in their last two matches and considerable help to secure an improbable playoff spot.
- JAHN JUMPSTARTED: Jahn’s brace mark the third and fourth goals he’s scored since coming to Columbus from the San Jose Earthquakes earlier this season. Jahn now has 10 goals over a four-year career, including four since late August.
- THIS IS WHAT YOU GET: In a battle of teams that will be staying home in November, both made the kinds of mistakes that may explain their absence from the postseason. De Leeuw and Arturo Alvarez both failed to get efforts on frame during good first-half chances. For Columbus, Michael Parkhurst’s own goal was unfortunate, but probably avoidable.
