Now that's rolling out a welcome mat -- or, if you will, the Reds' carpet.
Toronto FC's ownership group, Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, along with the Canadian Arab Institute, are teaming up to host up to 1500 newcomers from Syria at Wednesday night's match against Orlando City at BMO Field (7:30 pm ET, FS1, TSN).
As part of the festivities, the newcomers will take part in a meet-and-greet with former TFC player Dwayne De Rosario, now a community ambassador with the club.
The match outing is only part of the week's activities, though. On Monday, members of the Syrian Eagles -- a Canadian soccer team created to give new arrivals a club of their own -- took part in a clinic with community coaches at TFC's training site, followed by dinner and a tour of the training facility.
Judging by the smiles, it looks as though everyone had a great time -- once again highlighting the role sports can play in bridging cultures.
