The Houston Dynamo made a move before the close of the summer transfer window on Wednesday, acquiring 21-year-old Honduran midfielder Jose Escalante on loan from Rio Grande Valley FC, the club’s hybrid USL affiliate.
RGV FC acquired Escalante on loan from Honduran club Olimpia earlier this year. He’ll be loaned from RGV FC to the Dynamo for the remainder of 2016. According to a Dynamo spokesperson, Olimpia, who still hold Escalante’s rights, approved Wednesday’s move.
Honduras’ captain at the 2015 Under-20 World Cup, Escalante tallied three goals and two assists in 14 appearances with RGV FC. A left footed winger, he’s the first player to move from RGV FC, whose technical operations are managed by the Dynamo but who operate independently on the business side, to Houston.
“Jose has been a key and consistent performer this season for our USL team RGV FC,” Dynamo GM Matt Jordan said in a statement released by the club. “He’s earned this opportunity with the first team and we look forward to his continued growth with our club.”
Escalante is the fourth player acquired by the Dynamo who has Olimpia ties. He follows Houston midfielder Boniek Garcia and former players Luis Garrido and Alex Lopez from Olimpia to Texas.
