Could Seattle Sounders FC be emerging as a contender for the services of Uruguayan forward Tabare Viudez?
Viudez, now with Argentina's River Plate, has been repeatedly linked to Uruguayan side Club Nacional de Football, where he scored 10 goals in 2011-12 while on loan. But on Thursday, journalist Martin Abreu tweeted that the Sounders also are in contention for the 26-year-old Viudez.
Viudez has played in Uruguay, Italy, Mexico, Turkey and Argentina since he began his senior career in 2007 with Uruguay's Defensor Sporting. He had a brief stint with Serie A side AC Milan, but made only one appearance off the bench in his lone season there. He did have some success with River Plate, arriving in mid-2015 to help lift them to the Copa Libertadores title that year.
In previous reports, Nacional have expressed a strong interest in Viudez but also acknowledged that River Plate would not let him go cheaply.
Seattle have previously pursued another Uruguayan, midfielder Nicolas Lodeiro of Boca Juniors – another Argentine side – for a move during the current window. Those talks stalled in June but have been revived this month.
