The MLS Disciplinary Committee has suspended LA Galaxy midfielder Nigel de Jong an additional match and fined New York City FC forward David Villa and Seattle Sounders forward Oalex Anderson for actions taken during Weeks 17 and 18 of the 2016 MLS season.
De Jong foul on Perez
The Committee unanimously chose to suspend Nigel de Jong an extra match for his red card foul on Blas Perez in the 74th minute of LA’s 2-0 win against the Vancouver Whitecaps on July 4. De Jong was shown a red card for the foul, but the Committee deemed it serious enough to tack on another match to his suspension.
De Jong served the first game of his ban in LA’s 1-0 win at Seattle on Saturday; he’ll sit out the second match on Friday, when the Galaxy host the Houston Dynamo at StubHub Center (11 pm ET; UniMás in the US, MLS LIVE in Canada).
Villa contact on Felipe
The Committee unanimously ruled that New York City FC forward David Villa was in violation of the league’s policy of regarding hands to the face, head or neck of an opponent when he made contact with Felipe in NYCFC’s win against the New York Red Bulls on July 3. Villa will be issued an undisclosed fine for the action.
Anderson simulation
The Committee unanimously found Seattle Sounders forward Oalex Anderson guilty of simulation for an incident in which he fell in the box in the 86th minute of Seattle’s 1-0 loss to the LA Galaxy on Saturday. He’ll be issued an undisclosed fine for the action.
