As expected, many of the scores from Round 14 were best described as lackluster, except for one. Thanks to a strong showing from his Toronto players, and a few lucky differential pickups, Dave Rawlins took his team, FREMONT TROLLS FC, to the top with a score of 83 points. Congratulations on a great score and on winning a gift card to the MLSStore.com.
Fortunately, Round 15 provides a much better opportunity for points as it marks the return of the more lucrative double game week. Combine this with a small, but promising, selection of on form double game week teams and you have a DGW worth investing in. Below is my list of players who I think will be able to help you have the kind of round like Dave had last week.
Goalkeeper
Double Game Week Option: When it comes to getting the job done at home, the Philadelphia Union are one of the best and a lot of that success is thanks to Andre Blake ($5.0). His shot stopping ability has made the Union one of the six teams to allow less than one goal per game at home, and their two home games this week give Blake a great shot at big points.
Defenders
Under Owned: If you are looking for a cheap way into the New York Red Bulls backline, then consider Sal Zizzo ($6.6). Over his past three games, Zizzo has averaged seven points per game thanks to a run of clean sheets. While this may not continue while they are on the road, they definitely have more in their future and Zizzo is likely to play 180 minutes, as he is one of the few to avoid the Red Bull injury plague.
Home Form: The Philadelphia defense has been in a fantasy point generating slump recently, but with the return of their starting ‘keeper, Ken Tribbett ($6.1) should be on your shortlist for defensive options. His point generation is a little behind the more popular Keegan Rosenberry ($5.8), but his center back role gives him a better chance at bonus points, especially at home.
Midfielders
DGW Form: If you are looking for a cheaper way into the Red Bulls offense, you have several choices and Felipe ($8.6) offers a good balance between price and point generation. During his last seven games, Felipe has averaged seven points per game and has become New York’s fourth highest-scoring fantasy player. He could soon move into third, especially if Mike Grella ($8.3) stays home to enjoy a belated Father’s Day.
Point Man: The debate over who the best Philadelphia midfield option is may still be going on for some, but my pick remains Chris Pontius ($7.3). The numbers just continue to back him up. Highest total points, best points per 90 minutes played, and the best point return based on price.
SGW Option: If you need a player with consistent point production, then Osvaldo Alonso ($9.0) is one of the best in the game. After 14 rounds, Alonso has only scored fewer than five points once and is currently averaging almost seven points per game. He’s still a risk due to Seattle’s current form, but he’s also the only Sounder worth considering at this moment.
Forwards
Remaining Star: If you are dead set on having an LA forward for this round, then Mike Magee ($7.3) is your most reliable option. Fortunately, Magee does have numbers that back him up as a viable choice, including generating over seven points per 90 min. played, the highest number of shots on goal for LA, and a budget price that will allow you to improve your attack in other areas.
Well Rounded: If you’d rather have options when picking a DGW forward, then Real Salt Lake is where you want to look. They currently have three forwards who are on great form, but Joao Plata ($9.5) comes in as my top pick. Not only is his point generation is in the top 10 of all forwards, but his real value comes from his ability to generate bonus points and assists, which is not a quality all forwards share.
These are the players I think are going to stand out in Round 12 – who are you targeting?
