Real Salt Lake 2, Portland Timbers 2 | 2016 MLS Match Recap

Jake Gleeson guessed right and dove right and still the Portland Timbers keeper couldn't get there in time to stop Yura Movsisyan's brilliantly taken penalty kick. And with that, Real Salt Lake managed to salvage a 2-2 draw Saturday night in Rio Tinto Stadium.

In a game that was chippy from the opening kickoff, RSL got on the board first when Burrito Martinez headed in a corner from Javier Morales in the 17th minute. But Portland equalized on a goal by Fanendo Adi in the 29th minute and the Timbers took the lead when Lucas Melano put in the rebound off the post on a shot by Diego Valeri in the 44th.

Gleeson did make four saves in the game, including a brilliant on one Movsisyan in the 74th, to preserve the draw. Portland's Darren Mattocks had a potential winner waved off for offside in the 85th minute.

Three Things

1. ARE YOU WATCHING, LUIS SEJIAS? Note to penalty-takers: Don't do what Luis Sejias did for Venezuela against Argentina in the Copa America Centenario quarterfinal match. That's where Sejias floated a ball up the middle, right into the arms of Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero. Sejias no doubt expected Romero to dive to one side or the other, but the goalie didn't. What you should do is what Yura Movsisyan did. Movsisyan drove his spot kick hard into the left corner of the goal. Portland goalkeeper Jake Gleeson guessed correctly and extended fully and still couldn't get there. That's how you take a penalty.

2. HE LIKES PLAYING AGAINST THESE GUYS:
One-third of Fanendo Adi's goals this season (three of nine) have come against Real Salt Lake. Adi scored both Timbers goals in Portland's 2-2 draw with Real on March 19 and he scored one goal in Saturday's 2-2 draw. He'll get one more crack at them when Portland host RSL at Providence Park Sept. 10.
3. GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS
: Jermaine Taylor had an eventful game for Portland. He had an assist, setting up Fanendo Adi's goal to put the Timbers on the board in the first half, then he had a horrendous giveaway on an ill-advised back pass in the 60th minute, forcing his keeper, Jake Gleeson, to make a great save. Finally, it was his foul on Yura Movsisyan that led to the penalty that Movsisyan turned into the tying goal.
