Philadelphia Union 2, LA Galaxy 2 | 2016 MLS Match Recap

The Philadelphia Union hung tough against the surging LA Galaxy on Wednesday night, hauling themselves into a 2-2 draw as Keegan Rosenberry scored his first MLS goal after pretty strikes from Robbie Rogers and Mike Magee had given the visitors the lead at Talen Energy Stadium.

Vincent Nogueira pushed Philly ahead just four minutes into the match, only for Giovani dos Santos and Robbie Keane to combine in magical fashion to set up Rogers' finish. And when dos Santos and Steven Gerrard teamed up to create a chance that Magee coolly dispatched, LA looked on course to bag their fifth win of the young campaign.

But a handling error by Galaxy goalkeeper Dan Kennedy allowed the rookie Rosenberry to poke home from close range and the two sides had to share the points.

Three Things

1. ROBBIE, TAKE A BOW: Those who may have forgotten that Robbie Rogers was once an attack-minded winger were given a reminder of his varied skillset when LA's right back roamed forward to lash home a ruthless left-footed finish for the Galaxy's opener. That kind of timing and feel for the game -- not to mention two-footedness -- is a real weapon from a fullback.

2. BLOODSPORT 2 - VAN DAMME VS. SAPONG: LA center back Jelle Van Damme had clearly been briefed about Philly striker C.J. Sapong's muscular style of play. The two big man battled tenaciously, and Van Damme seemed to get away with a few rugged challenges that might've drawn cautions on another night. On balance, we'll call it a stalemate.

3. KEEGAN'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE: The Union rookie further bolstered his growing Rookie of the Year credentials with an opportunistic finish to rescue a point for his team. Of nearly equal importance was his sterling 1v1 defense against the Galaxy's attacking stars, like here:
