New York City FC 1, New England Revolution 1 | 2016 MLS Match Recap

It was a frustrating day for the home side in the Bronx as New York City FC failed to collect all three points at Yankee Stadium against the New England Revolution despite being up a man for most of the second half.

Thomas McNamara got the scoring started in the 10th minute after nodding home a rebound of a David Villa shot that went off the crossbar. The goal was McNamara's second of the season. Chris Tierney pulled one back for the Revs off a free kick that was heavily deflected by NYCFC forward Steven Mendoza.

Gershon Koffie saw a straight red card for New England in the 51st minute but this did not stop the Revolution from having the better chances in the second half. NYCFC have now failed to win any of their first three home games.

Three Things

KOFFIE RED JUSTIFIED?: We have already seen 10 red cards this season and on Saturday we saw one more as Koffie was shown red at the start of the red card. The former Whitecaps midfielder looked to show his studs on a tackle that clipped McNamara. Some pundits argued that the red was harsh given the significance of the tackle.

NYCFC, WINLESS AT HOME: NYCFC were one of just two teams to go under .500 at home in 2015 and they have gotten off to a poor start in 2016. They were up 2-0 to Toronto FC in their home opener before settling for a draw and last week they were unable to score, losing 1-0 to Orlando City SC. Given they had 39 minutes with a man advantage, not getting three points vs. the Revs has to be a disappointment.

POKU APPEARS: 
Given the cult-like status, it was a bit surprising to see that Kwadwo Poku wasn't given a chance to take the field in NYCFC's first three games. Head coach Patrick Vieira highlighted his inability to grasp the new tactics but on Saturday, Poku finally got his opportunity. The Ghanian had his moments of brilliance but failed to affect the game in a significant way.
