D.C. United added to their midfield on Wednesday, announcing that they have signed English midfielder Rob Vincent on a transfer from the USL’s Pittsburgh Riverhounds.
Vincent, 25, comes to D.C. after three years with Pittsburgh. He leaves the Riverhounds as the leading regular-season scorer in the club’s modern USL era, with 24 total goals. He led the team with 18 regular-season goals from his position as a left-sided midfielder in 2015, and scored in each of the club’s US Open Cup matches, including bagging a penalty kick in their fourth-round loss to United.
He was named to the USL’s All-League first-team last year, and had a trial with D.C. last fall. He has been taking part in United's preseason preparations in recent weeks.
“Rob first impressed us during our US Open Cup match against the Riverhounds last summer,” D.C. GM and VP of soccer operations Dave Kasper said in a statement released by the club. “He is a smart player who has the ability to create and score from wide midfield positions, and his tireless work rate and professionalism excite us.”
A native of Liverpool, England, Vincent attended the University of Charleston in West Virginia from 2009-2012 before joining the Riverhounds in 2013. He holds a US Green Card and will not occupy an international slot on United’s roster.
