FC Dallas are apparently after another midfielder, with German outlets reporting on Thursday that the club are on the verge of signing 20-year-old Ecuador international Carlos Gruezo from Vfb Stuttgart.
Gruezo moved from Ecuadorian club Barcelona to Stuttgart in January 2014. He’s struggled to consistently find the field while in Germany, playing just 18 Bundesliga matches in two years as Stuttgart shuffled through several coaches and struggled to avoid relegation.
Gruezo played two matches for Ecuador at the 2014 World Cup and has 10 career caps with the senior national team. Stuttgart newspaper Stuttgarter Nachrichten reported that Dallas are willing to pay up to €1.5 million for the midfielder.
FC Dallas currently have a glut of young midfielders on their roster in Kellyn Acosta, Victor Ulloa, Michael Barrios, Ezequiel Cirigliano and 2015 MLS Best XI selection Fabian Castillo, who was the subject of transfer rumors last fall. The club also announced the signing of 28-year-old midfielder Juan Esteban Ortiz on Wednesday.
Gruezo, who has played as a defensive midfielder and a winger during his career, posted a photo of himself on a plane with the caption “Thank you God for all of your blessings” to his Instagram account on Thursday morning.
