The debate about where Soccer City is will rage forever, but Kansas City is doing its best to stake a claim as Soccer Championship City this year.
On Thursday, one night after MLS's Sporting Kansas City won the 2015 US Open Cup, FC Kansas City defeated the Seattle Reign, 1-0, to claim their second straight National Women's Soccer League title.
US World Cup veteran Amy Rodriguez struck the decisive goal in the 78th minute, heading in a cross from Heather O'Reilly that Seattle goalkeeper Hope Solo had no chance on.
For Seattle, who finished the season at the top of the NWSL standings, the loss is a familiar blow: They also lost to KC in last year's final.
The match marked the end of longtime USWNT midfielder Lauren Holiday's career and added a second club championship to her resume, which also includes two Olympic gold medals and the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup title this past summer.
