13. Felipe
Pos: M | Montreal Impact | Age: 22
The 22-year-old Brazilian has taken a step back from last year’s list – eight steps to be precise – but that may be more a testament to the other players on the list than his actual performance. Montreal already have more points than they accumulated all year in 2012, and are right at the top of the Eastern Conference standings. Felipe certainly has something to do with that. In fact, he has more goals than he netted in less games in 2012. Under new Impact coach Marco Schällibaum, Felipe’s play has been a large reason why Montreal are trending upward.

What TDs and coaches like: "He is one of my favorite guys in the league right now. His ability to provide passes through very tight spaces is one of the best qualities that he has. ... He makes really intelligent runs from the midfield and that’s always hard to defend. ... Good soccer player. Really smart. Good passer of the ball. Good movement off the ball and a good finisher. ... No one really knew much about him before he came here. He’s productive and works hard for the team. When they go from defense to attack they look for his feet because he makes good decisions. ... He has established himself as a modern No. 10. He's very dangerous both creating and scoring goals."

Where TDs and coaches want improvement: "I haven’t really seen that many weaknesses. If I had any, I would say probably that in a tough league when things get really tight, he’s still got to be effective in those games and be a guy who makes them go. ... I think one of the questions with him is whether or not he's ready to step forward and become one of the elite players consistently in the league. Does he have a ceiling like a Javi Morales where he steps up and helps win things for his team? ... Consistency. That's the big question mark."

Opta Says: Felipe (1.6) ranks third amongst players eligible for 24 Under 24 in chances created per game during the 2013 season.

|
