LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham just can’t seem to sit still in the offseason. Reports out of England claim the 35-year-old is once again considering going on loan again this winter.
In England to receive a lifetime achievement award from the BBC, Beckham said he is not headed back to Italian giants AC Milan, whom he joined the previous two years. Last year, while on loan with the Rossoneri, he injured his Achilles tendon, which saw him sit out six months and appear in only seven matches for the Galaxy in 2010.
“I won't be going back to AC Milan this time because it's not possible to go onto the roster for such a short length of time,” Beckham said. “But I will be going back somewhere as I want to keep myself fit and keep myself in with a chance of getting called up for England again. To do that, I have to be somewhere. So fingers crossed I can sort something out.”
Beckham has played for England 115 times. England coach Fabio Capello, however, has not indicated that a move to Europe would help Beckham’s chances of a return to the Three Lions.
The Galaxy, according to the Associated Press, are reluctant to see their marquee player go out on loan again given his lack of playing time after last year’s injury.
“My body feels great after my injury,” Beckham said. “I always said I needed to get that back into order and keep my fitness and we will see.”
If he goes, Beckham has suggested that the English Premier League is his preferred destination.
“It is a great league and one of the most competitive in the world,” Beckham said. “Maybe one day I will come back here, but I have always said that it will only be for Manchester United. I am not holding my breath on that one, but we will have to wait and see.”
