SALT LAKE CITY - Real Salt Lake General Manager Steve Pastorino and Head Coach John Ellinger today announced the acquisition of the rights to DF Adolfo Gregorio via trade with the Colorado Rapids. Gregorio was acquired from Colorado in exchange for a permanent Youth International slot and a First Round 2007 MLS Supplemental Draft pick. In order to make room on the team's 18-man senior roster for Gregorio, RSL moved MF Luke Kreamalmeyer to its developmental roster.
Gregorio was selected by the Colorado Rapids with the 15th overall pick in the Second Round of the 2004 MLS SuperDraft on January 16, 2004. He spent the 2004-2005 season with Darlington Football Club of the English League Two where he scored two goals in 24 games.
The California native was a three-time first-team All-PAC 10 midfielder during his college career at UCLA, and as a 2003 Hermann Trophy candidate led the Bruins with 14 assists. He also ranked third in scoring with 22 points. The 22-year old has represented the United States on several occasions, playing for the Under-23, Under-20, and Under-17 National Teams. He was a part of the U-17 National Team which finished a best-ever fourth at the 1999 FIFA World Youth Championship under current RSL Head Coach John Ellinger.
