Michael Calderón

COCACHES' BREAKDOWN: Calderon is a technically gifted attacking midfielder who takes great set pieces and has exceptional field vision. With time on the ball - and his technical ability can usually earn him some - he can pick out passes seemingly anywhere on the field. Beyond his passing, though, the Costa Rican can cause defenses problems by running at defenders 1-v-1, where he has a pretty good first step and usually comes out on top. But Calderon is not a goalscorer, making his prospects at taking over the No. 10 slot slim. Does he have the pace to move wide, and does he have the skill and defensive prowess to take over deeper in midfield? These are the questions that Calderon will have to answer for teams to spend an international slot on him.

COLLEGE: 2013: All-NCAA Tournament Team selection… College Soccer News Second Team All-American… First Team NSCAA All-Midwest Region… Voted to College Soccer News and TopDrawerSoccer National Team of the Week on six different occasions… First Team All-Conference USA selection… Finished second on team in goals (six) and assists (five)… 2012: Second Team All-Conference in the MPSF... Third Team All-Far West Region... Finished second on the team in assists with eight, which was fifth in the MPSF... 2011 (at Fairleigh Dickinson): Appeared in 15 games, starting in nine for the Knights who went 11-5-3 on the season... Took 28 shots with one of them on goal 2010 (at Fairleigh Dickinson): Started in 13 of the Knights' 17 contests in 2010... Named top offensive rookie after his debut season... Scored his first career goal in 1-1 tie at home against Robert Morris (10/15/2009)... Buried second career goal the following match in 1-0 home victory over Saint Francis (PA)(10/17/2009)... Named the NEC Player and Rookie of the Week for his efforts, as well as to College Soccer News' National Team of the Week.

PERSONAL: Son of Maurician Calderon and Rosibel Gonzalez, Michael was born Dec. 6, 1988 in San Jose, Costa Rica... Intends to major in exercise science at UNM.
