At Missouri State: Riggs looks to continue his dominance in goal as the reigning MVC Defensive Player of the Year. 2009:  Riggs earned MVC Defensive Player of the Year, All-MVC first team and NSCAA/Performance Suburu All-Midwest Region first team accolades following a season in which he started all 19 matches, recording 12 wins and eight shutouts. In conference play, he lead the league in shutouts (5), goals against average (0.66) and save percentage (.842) among starters. He did not allow a goal to perennial MVC power Creighton in two matches. Riggs earned MVC Defensive Player of the Week honors following three-straight shutouts vs. Central Arkansas (9/13), Centenary (La.) (9/16) and Creighton (9/19). He earned his second MVC Defensive Player of the Week honor following back-to-back shutouts of Creighton (10/7) and Bradley (10/10). He recorded a season-high nine saves in the Bears’ 1-0 shutout of Bradley (10/10). 2008: Riggs had a breakout year in his first season as the Bears’ full-time starting goalkeeper, playing all 2,087 minutes in goal for Missouri State. Riggs’ performance earned him a place in the top-five in four out of six single season statistical categories, saves (4th), shutouts (t-5th), minutes in goal (2nd) and games started in goal (1st). Riggs’ performance in conference play earned the Bears a 3-1-1 regular season conference record, a 1-1-1 MVC Tournament record and a runner-up finish in the MVC Tournament. He was also the only player to be named the Brine MVC Conference Player of the Week for consecutive weeks, Oct. 20 and Oct. 27, for his three-straight shutouts against Evansville, Creighton and Bradley (10/15-25). Riggs tallied a 0.95 goals against average for 2008 while securing 109 saves and six shutouts against No. 2 nationally ranked Akron (9/14), Howard (10/3), Evansville (10/15), No. 2 nationally ranked Creighton (10/21), Bradley (10/25) and Eastern Illinois (11/2). In the semifinals of the MVC Tournament, the Bears battled Drake to a 1-1 tie at the end of the second overtime, where Riggs rose to the occasion and saved two of the Bulldogs’ three penalty kicks to secure the victory for Missouri State and its first Championship appearance since 1999. For his efforts, Riggs was named as the first team all-MVC goalkeeper. 2007: Riggs redshirted as a sophomore leaving himself three more seasons in the goalkeeper rotation for the Bears. 2006:  Riggs saw action in five contests and made three starts, including the final two of the season after Lance Parker suffered an injury. In his three starts, Riggs picked up 20 saves and finished with 23 for the season. Riggs took the loss in starts against Fairleigh Dickinson (9/1), at Western Illinois (10/24), and in the MVC Tournament against Eastern Illinois (11/1) to finish with an 0-3 record. Riggs posted a 2.16 goals against average and a .719 save percentage in his freshman campaign. Background:  Riggs led Fort Zumwalt South High to a 25-4-1 record and a Gateway Athletic Conference Championship and district championship as a senior. The 6-4 goalkeeper recorded 10 shutouts as the Bulldogs picked up a school-record 25 victories in 2005. As a team captain, Riggs earned first team all-conference, third team all-metro, and honorable mention all-state honors. As a junior, Riggs recorded 14 shutouts and was named to the all-conference second team and was an all-metro honorable mention.
