MidfielderAlex Pineda Chacon might not have spent much time in MLS, but he made his short service count in a big way. Upon arriving in 2001, Chacon paced the Miami Fusion to the Supporters’ Shield with 19 goals and four assists, good enough for the league lead in goals and points scored.
His performance in his first MLS season earned him Most Valuable Player honors, but after the Fusion contracted in 2001 he struggled to regain his form.
Pineda was picked up by the Revolution in the 2002 MLS Dispersal Draft, but a limited role forced him out of New England and to Columbus after the 2002 season.
After again failing to find success in Columbus, he ultimately landed a roster spot with the Galaxy, but his struggles only continued, and his MLS career ended in 2003.
OTHER:
After his time in Major League Soccer came to a close, Chacon found a home in the A-League playing for the Atlanta Silverbacks. He is currently an assistant coach for the Silverbacks.
The majority of Chacon’s career was spent playing in his native Honduras for Club Olimpia. He began playing in 1988 and enjoyed success there, leading the club to six Honduran championships, five Central American championships, and one CONCACAF Champions Cup in 1988.
After Olimpia, Chacon briefly spent some time with Mexican club UA Tamaulipas and Peruvian side Sporting Cristal.
