De Jong is a seasoned left back also capable of playing in midfield. He arrived to Vancouver during the 2016 summer transfer window and boasts previous MLS and NASL experience, as well as having spent time with clubs like German outfit FC Augsburg and Dutch side Roda JC.

INTERNATIONAL: De Jong has made 45 appearances for Canada's national team since making his debut at age 21 in 2007, and has scored three goals. He has also represented Canada in four consecutive CONCACAF Gold Cups, and three World Cup qualifying campaigns.

OUTSIDE MLS: A dual citizen of Canada and Netherlands, de Jong began his youth career with PSV Eindhoven before signing professionally with Helmond Sport in 2004. After two years in the Dutch second division – and scoring against Italy at the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship in the Netherlands – de Jong joined Roda JC in the top flight Eredivisie in 2006. De Jong made the move to Germany in 2010, signing for FC Augsburg. His initial season with FCA culminated with promotion to the Bundesliga for the first time since the team was founded in 1907 and the club maintained first division status while he was there. He joined the Ottawa Fury of the NASL during its Spring Season in 2016.
