The Vancouver Whitecaps and winger David Milinkovic have mutually agreed to terminate the player's contract, with the club confirming that the parties went their separate ways on Monday before the close of the European transfer window.

In a club statement, Whitecaps CEO and sporting director Axel Schuster said the decision was motivated by personal reasons for the France native.

"Around the start of the pandemic, David and his partner welcomed their first child and there was a disconnect with their families back in Europe," Schuster said. "Based on where we are headed as a team and David’s desire to move closer to home, this was the best time to make this decision for everyone involved."

Milinkovic joined the Whitecaps in January 2020, on loan from English side Hull City, and his deal was made permanent in October when a clause was triggered in his loan contract. He played 16 games for the Whitecaps in 2020, and scored one goal.
