TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

Yamil Asad has almost sealed his return to MLS, according to a new Washington Post report, but he won't be taking the field in league play for some months to come.

Now a free agent, the Argentinean winger has agreed on the terms of a new contract with D.C. United, WaPo's Steve Goff reported Tuesday night, though with MLS rosters already frozen at the end of last week, the deal will not kick in until the start of 2020.

Asad was a standout on two year-long MLS loan stints, the first with Atlanta United in 2017 and the second at D.C. last season, scoring 9g/8a and 7g/13a, respectively. But with neither team able to broker a permanent transfer from Velez Sarsfield, he returned home to that club on both occasions.

Asad's contract at the Buenos Aires outfit expired in July and he saw little playing time in his final months there, so D.C. have elected to take a long-term approach to rebuild his fitness and form with an eye towards next season. With that in mind, he's expected to sign a short-term deal that will allow him to play for Loudoun United, their USL Championship team, this year.
