Orlando City and forward Stefano Pinho have mutually agreed to terminate his contract and waive his rights ahead of the 2019 MLS season.

Pinho, 28, joined the club after twice winning the NASL's Golden Ball and MVP awards, once with the Fort Lauterdale Strikers in 2015 and once with Miami FC in 2017. After he made the step up in class, however, he failed to gain much traction, scoring twice and earning only five starts among his 23 league appearances.

The Brazilian indicated on social media last week that his departure was coming.

The Lions still have five forwards on their roster, including proven MLS scorer Dom Dwyer and 2018 MLS Rookie of the Year runner-up Chris Mueller.

“Stefano is a good player who was able to transition well to MLS during his first season in the league last year, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors,” Orlando City SC executive vice president of soccer operations Luiz Muzzi said in a statement. “For us this decision opens an important position in our roster and gives us some added flexibility.”

The Lions officially kick off the MLS campaign on March 2 at home against New York City FC (2:30 pm ET | Univision, Twitter - full TV & streaming info)
