LAFC have transferred midfielder Andre Horta to Portuguese side SC Braga, the club announced Monday. The move opens a Designated Player slot for the club. According to The Athletic's Sam Stejskal, the fee is $2.75 million and LAFC will receive 50% of any future transfer fee should Braga sell Horta.

Horta, 22, arrived in L.A. last summer with much hype and expectation, as he was one of the highest rated players in Liga NOS, but it never quite came off in MLS. He started just five games amid 15 appearances for LAFC, including just two starts this season.

“We would like to thank Andre for his contribution to the Club,” EVP of Soccer Operations John Thorrington said in a statement. “This deal makes good sense for both LAFC and Andre, and we wish him the best in the next phase of his career at Braga.”

Horta's debut was an ignominious one, as he came off the bench in the second edition of El Trafico, with LAFC up 2-0 on the LA Galaxy. The Galaxy got a goal back then Horta's ill-fated backpass gave Ola Kamara an easy goal to level the game.

The Portuguese youth international had four goals and 10 assists across 68 Primeira Liga appearances between Braga, Vitoria Setubal and Benfica before he joined LAFC last summer.
