Minnesota United FC can clinch a first Audi MLS Cup Playoff berth when they host a Sporting Kansas City desperate to keep their slim postseason hopes alive Wednesday night at Allianz Field.

The Loons (14-10-7) inched closer to clinching a berth with a scoreless draw against the Portland Timbers Sunday at Providence Park. Robin Lod headed off the crossbar in the second half and Vito Mannone made 12 saves for his 11th clean sheet of the season.

Sporting Kansas City (10-14-7) are seven points below the playoff line with three games to play following a crushing 3-2 defeat to the Colorado Rapids Saturday night at Children's Mercy Park. SKC raced out to a quick two-goal lead as Gerso struck in the 3rd minute followed by a Tommy Smith own goal 11 minutes later. Matt Besler was sent off for his second bookable offense in the 20th minute, opening the door for three unanswered Rapids goals.

This is the second meeting between the clubs this year with Sporting winning 1-0 at home Aug. 22 with Erik Hurtado scoring the decisive goal two minutes from full time.
