The Chicago Fire bolstered their central midfield corps on Wednesday, acquiring Tony Tchani in a trade with the Vancouver Whitecaps in exchange for $150,000 in 2018 Targeted Allocation Money.

Arriving in Vancouver from Columbus last year in a trade for Kekuta Manneh, Tchani started 26 regular-season matches for the ‘Caps, scoring four goals and one assist and appearing in two of VWFC’s MLS Cup Playoffs matches and one CONCACAF Champions League match.

The second overall pick in the 2010 SuperDraft, the box-to-box midfielder and Cameroon international started his MLS career with the New York Red Bulls and Toronto FC before settling in with Crew SC, whom he helped reach the 2015 MLS Cup final.

Tchani provides a timely boost for a Fire midfield that Rodriguez has recently stated needs reinforcements. Chicago open their season vs. Sporting Kansas City on March 10.

MLS Fantasy Impact: Tchani ($6.5) is expected to be a depth option in Chicago. Start playing!
