Atlanta United will hope their previous success at Exploria Stadium carries over to the Concacaf Champions League with the Five Stripes trying to overturn a three-goal deficit when they face Club America in the second leg of the quarterfinals Wednesday night.

So much has changed for Atlanta since that 3-0 defeat at Estadio Azteca in March. A poor showing at the MLS is Back Tournament prompted Frank de Boer's departure, Stephen Glass has filled in as interim head coach and the Five Stripes failed to qualify for the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs. They'll be back in this competition in 2021, awarded their spot for winning the 2019 U.S. Open Cup after that competition was not played this year due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

While Atlanta has been idle since Nov. 8, Club America fell to El Super Clasico rival Chivas Guadalajara in the Liga MX Apertura quarterfinals 3-1 on aggregate Nov. 28.

Atlanta United cruised past Motagua 4-1 on aggregate in the Round of 16, with Josef Martinez and Pity Martinez scoring all four goals. But Josef is still recovering from a torn ACL suffered during a Week 1 win over Nashville SC and Pity transferred to Al-Nassr FC in September.

Club America needed penalty kicks to oust Guatemalan club Comunicaciones in the Round of 16 after a pair of 1-1 draws.

In a highly-anticipated rematch of last year's thrilling Campeones Cup, Leo Suarez and Henry Martin scored stylish goals two minutes apart early in the first half and Bruno Valdez added a third nine minutes before halftime in Club America's comfortable 3-0 win at Estadio Azteca Nov. 11.

The winner meets either LAFC or Cruz Azul in the single-leg semifinals December 19 at 10:30 pm ET.
